Performance Tab

This allows the user to define criteria that determines how FOS will calculate the time for each leg.

FOS will use the distance calculated between two latitude and longitude coordinates and wind data bias along with speed settings from this tab to calculate the leg times. (The fields used in the calculation are outlined in red.)

The time calculation may also be biased in several ways:

Cruise - The “Long Range Cruise” or “Max Cruise” may be selected in the leg. This will use the “Long Range Cruise” or “Max Cruise” true airspeed rather than the normal true airspeed number.

“Cruise” selection field in the leg notebook:

ETE and EFT Round up to Tenths – both calculated times will round up to the minute that equals the next whole tenth. (Example, if the time calculated for the leg equaled 45 minutes, the time would be rounded up to 48 minutes which in minutes is the next whole tenth.)

- Distance Add-on Section - The time may also be biased by adding distance in this section. By adding distance, the leg time naturally will be increased.
- Additional Distance - You may add a fixed distance to each leg by putting a number of nautical miles in this field or you may add a percentage of distance for each segment of the leg. As shown in the example, the first 250 miles of the leg or any part of that distance if the leg is shorter would add ten percent of 25 more miles. Between 250 and 500 another 5 percent of distance would be added, etc. There is also an option to apply this rule only if the leg distance is less than the miles of the third segment.

- Extra Time - Allows the user to specify ground times and taxi times for the aircraft.
Ground – Will, by default, set the number of minutes between each leg the aircraft is on the ground. This may be overridden on any leg if necessary without affecting the default time.
- Intl Ground - If a different ground time is necessary at international locations, populate this field. International locations are determined by the ICAO prefixes which are not set in the “Domestic ICAO Codes” section on the Times tab in Company Data.
- Taxi - Adds time to the calculated flight time to determine ETE (estimated time en route) or block time. Data entered here should be the taxi out or taxi in time so the total taxi time calculated for each leg will be double the time listed. As with the flight time, extra taxi time and ground time may be entered into a specific airport where those times will be biased for a leg that arrives or departs that specific airport.
- Fuel Stop - Will calculate extra time in the leg if that leg exceeds the endurance of the aircraft. The “Fuel Stop” time is especially useful when having to turn around a quote very quickly. The user will not have to enter another leg in the quote before sending to the client. However, be cautious when using this feature as it does not calculate in landing fees, etc.
- Airport Data - The final way to bias the flight time is by adding time in the airport data. You can add this extra time by specifying a specific number of minutes in the “Arrival Flight” field. This will add time only for legs arriving into that specific airport.

“Extra Time” fields in the airport data:

You may enter a direct operating cost when using the “Time-Distance” calculator in FOS. You will be able to obtain a rough estimate of the operating cost of flying a segment without building a trip or quote.
