Installing or moving FOS to a new server

Installing or moving FOS to a new server

If FOS has already been installed on a server and needs to be moved to a new server follow the steps below:

1. Make a Copy of the FOS and Data Folders. Ensure all users are logged out of FOS when this occurs.
2. Deauthorize the Pervasive key on the current FOS Server. If detailed steps on this are needed, please inquire with FOS Support. *The key will need to be deauthorized before it is applied to the new server.*

On the new server install the same version of Pervasive or Action PSQL that is installed on the old server. You are able to install Pervasive or Actian Zen PSQL from actian.com. The Installer will come with a 30 Day Trial License. If you have your permanent Pervasive License Key you will want to apply the Permanent Key after Pervasive is installed. To Install Pervasive you will want to:
1. Go to actian.com and download the version of Pervasive that matches the license key

2. If you are installing Pervasive on the Server you will want to download the Server Version. If you are installing Pervasive on a work station then you will need to download and install the client version. All workstations will need the 32 bit client version installed.

3. Once you select the appropriate installer it will ask you to login or create an account. This is how pervasive monitors the downloads. If you already have an account, login. If not, create an account.

4. After logging in or creating an account the file will download and you will be able to launch the installer.

Applying your Permanent License Key
1. On the server, open the Start Menu --> Pervasive --> License Administrator

2. Enter your Pervasive Key and click Apply.

Installing FOS
Copy the entire FOS Folder from the “old” server into the new server.
Launch the FOS icon.
On the FOS Login window:
Select Utilities --> File Locations --> Network Data Directory
Ensure the path points to the FOS Data folder on the server
Select Utilities --> File Locations --> Temporary Directory
Ensure the path points to the FOS Data Temporary (tmp) folder on the server

Installing the Crystal Runtime Files
The Crystal Runtime Files are located as part of the FOS Installer. To install the Runtime Files run the FOS Installer and select to only install the Crystal Runtime Files as shown below.

* If users are accessing FOS from a shortcut on their desktop the Crystal Runtime Files will need to be installed on the user’s local machine.
* If users are accessing FOS by remote desk top to the server the Crystal Runtime Files only need to be installed on the server.

*It is recommended that the Crystal Runtime Files be installed on the server even if users aren’t accessing FOS directly from the server in the event automated reports are being ran from the server.

Once FOS has been installed on the server, the method of connection by the user (RDP, Citrix, etc) will need to be set up.

If using FOS Mobile, instructions to install can be provided by FOS Support.
If using vendor Alliance, instructions for updating can be provided by FOS Support.
